Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Manufacturing Supervisor (2:00pm - 10:30pm)

Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler™ technology platform. This platform enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by providing manufacturing processes and a materials library that are inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It unlocks MEMS manufacturing not only for device classes that could never be produced by semiconductor methods, but also for entirely new categories.

Furthermore, this digital platform is fully programmable in the way 3D printing is digital—but whereas 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the Matter Compiler™ technology platform is a multi‑process, multi‑material system: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device—made possible only through the Matter Compiler™ technology platform—that we will be unveiling to the world soon.

Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.

About

The Role

This role will be full‑time in the Emeryville location on 2nd shift from 2 pm to 10:30 pm Monday to Friday.

We’re seeking a Manufacturing Supervisor to lead a growing team of production technicians and operators. Reporting to the Head of Operations, Programs, you’ll play a key role in scaling our operations from manual builds to fully automated production. This is a hands‑on leadership role: you’ll oversee shift performance, coach and mentor technicians, and collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and supply chain to ensure smooth production.

You’ll hold daily standups, monitor metrics, and be engaged on the floor—ready to step in at stations, troubleshoot, and support the team directly. Success in this role requires attention to detail, safe tool usage, and a collaborative, growth‑oriented mindset. You’ll build trust across functions, foster accountability within your team, and drive continuous improvement to help scale the factory.

What You’ll Do
  • Supervise a team of 5–15 technicians operating production equipment and executing processes across multiple shifts.
  • Ensure adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor and optimize equipment performance, troubleshoot issues, and elevate as needed to engineering or maintenance.
  • Drive daily stand‑up meetings, shift handoffs, and communication flow between teams.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Coach, train, mentor, and evaluate technicians; foster a culture of accountability, problem‑solving, and teamwork.
  • Partner with recruiting and operations leadership to source, hire, train, and onboard new technicians as the team expands.
  • Track and report on key metrics such as yield, downtime, scrap, throughput, and labor efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean manufacturing practices and root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to support new process introductions, equipment qualification, and scaling to higher volumes.
What You’ll Need
  • 7+ years of experience in production, manufacturing, or operations within high‑tech industries (automotive, battery, semiconductor, electronics, or similar), including at least 2 years in supervisory or lead roles in multi‑shift environments.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment operation, and safety practices.
  • Ability to interpret process documentation, engineering specifications, and quality standards.
  • Demonstrated success in developing teams: coaching, mentoring, and hiring.
  • Proficiency in problem‑solving tools (5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA, root cause analysis).
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S) strongly preferred.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to build quality.
  • Prior hands‑on experience in a shop, production, or assembly environment (preferred).
  • Adaptability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving startup‑like environment.
  • A hands‑on leadership style with a focus on accountability, safety, and results.
  • Receptiveness to feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changing priorities and willingly take on tasks that support broader company goals.
  • Comfort working in fast‑paced, team‑oriented settings.
  • A first‑principles mindset — you question assumptions, reframe problems from the ground up, and approach challenges with a foundational understanding rather than relying solely on precedent.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to clearly articulate expectations, deliver feedback, and bridge information across functions.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.

The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.

Salary Range: $115,000 USD - $150,000 USD
