Please note:
This is a part-time at-will position working fewer than 950 hours per fiscal year and is non-benefited. Under general supervision performs a variety of administrative and program functions in support of a comprehensive recreation program; develops programs; supervises staff and manages program activities; performs related duties as required. This is a broad generic classification. Incumbents are assigned to one or more areas in the Recreation Division.
Assignments may be made to sports, aquatics, after school or any other recreation program activity. Assignments include director or indirect supervision of assigned staff and is dependent on program necessity.
Under general supervision, a Facility Attendant oversees the proper use of community recreational facilities, ensuring that all activities and events run smoothly. The role includes providing physical set-up arrangements for classes, meetings, activities, and public and private functions in community buildings. This involves setting up and removing tables, chairs, and other equipment such as PA systems, as well as performing cleanup tasks such as removing trash, sweeping or mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, restocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness in public spaces.
The Facility Attendant is also responsible for front desk duties, including answering phones, providing public information, addressing customer inquiries, and handling customer service interactions to ensure a positive user experience. Cash handling duties are also part of the role, requiring the processing of payments and maintaining accurate records for facility rentals and other transactions. Additionally, the Facility Attendant may open and close the facility for weekday, weekend, and evening rentals and recreation classes, and collaborates with staff to support the smooth operation of events and activities.
Furthermore, the Facility Attendant may be assigned as a Park Ambassador. Park Ambassadors are tasked with identifying and reporting any maintenance concerns, such as damaged equipment, safety hazards, or areas requiring attention. This role involves operating a city vehicle to navigate different park locations, providing customer support where needed, picking up trash, litter, and ensuring that all park-related activities are conducted smoothly and safely.
Completion of the 10th grade or above. Must be 18 years or older. Previous experience as a building attendant is highly desirable.
Knowledge and abilities:
- Ability to do heavy physical work including the lifting and moving of tables and chairs
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public
- Ability to use sound judgment and maturity when dealing with unexpected issues
- Basic computer knowledge is highly desirable
