Student Advisors are school based individuals responsible for providing direct support to building administration to address the behavioral needs of students. Emphasis is placed on developing proactive supports for students, fostering a sense of belonging for all and applying restorative approaches to address behavior and repair relationships. Student Advisors may also be responsible for administering logical consequences for level 1 and 2 student code of conduct issues.
Education and ExperienceA Bachelor's Degree in Social Behavior, Social Work, Human Services, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Juvenile Justice or related field or Associates Degree with experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in an area or work setting as described above. Other equivalent combinations of education and work experience may be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities- Develop appropriate behavioral, social, and emotional supports and interventions in conjunction with the administrative and building MTSS teams
- Implements and facilitates small group programming to address social-emotional and behavioral needs
- Establishes positive home-school relationships with parents/guardians
- Employs strategies to engage students and address student attendance concerns
- Communicates promptly and professionally with all stakeholders
- Administers logical and timely consequences in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Level 1 and Level 2 infractions
- Provides input and assists in investigations
- Contributes to the development and maintenance of an environment that is non threatening, safe, nurturing, and where students feel respected, accepted, and welcome
- Supervises students on campus; monitors students during lunch, passing periods, and other activities
- Maintains accurate and appropriate records related to students
- Works collaboratively with the administrative team, faculty, and staff
- Other duties as assigned
- Establishes and maintains productive, collaborative relationships with others including but not limited to students, parents, staff, administrators and community partners
- Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective disciplinary program
- Utilizes appropriate deescalation strategies, trauma-informed care and restorative practices
- Models district standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism
- Creates an environment that values diversity and inclusivity
- Builds relationships with families
- Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
- Demonstrates working knowledge of regulations, policies, and ethical issues related to student discipline, due process, and supplemental services and supports
- Uses effective interpersonal skills to prioritize relationships
