Operations Manager, Program / Project Manager
Purpose of the Position
Identifies and manages risks that could adversely affect business operations. Directs and provides leadership for executing a maintenance reliability program, improving asset reliability as well as the reliability of work processes and procedures to ensure universal adherence to best practices. Serves as a steward of the assigned facilities assets to ensure budgeted capacity and provide direction and support across multiple facilities.
Oversees the development of proper preventative and predictive activities.
This is a Salary Exempt position.
- Leads progression toward reliability best practices. Mentors Maintenance and Operations teams to build self‑sustaining site reliability programs. Promote and deliver the essential parts of the reliability strategy.
- Professionally and systematically defines, designs, develops, monitors and refines liability programs. Promotes standardized processes and procedures for proper operation and operator care of production related equipment, utility and auxiliary assets, while anticipating both reliability‑related and non‑reliability‑related risks that could adversely impact plant operations.
- Conducts regular maintenance audits. Provides recommendations with recognized and visible metrics to ensure consistent improvement within maintenance operations. Challenges change‑resistant areas of maintenance operations to ensure progression toward uniform standards and conformity.
- Conducts analyses of asset and production system performance. Provides subject‑matter expert level technical support to production and maintenance management and technical personnel. Applies systematic value‑analysis methodologies for repair/replace/redesign and make/buy decisions.
- Manages employees: directs and supervises employees' work activities, monitors performance, collaborates with Human Resources to screen, interview and hire candidates, administers disciplinary actions, recommends performance improvement actions, and recommends compensation decisions based on guidelines. Follows Simmons values to develop and maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees and promotes a cooperative, harmonious environment to facilitate positive morale, productivity, and continued improvement.
- Participates as a member of the Team: engages in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members; attends relevant meetings; fosters cohesiveness regarding major issues such as direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes; identifies lacking cohesiveness, brings it to the team leader's attention, works collaboratively to resolve issues, and actively seeks ways to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
Operating Systems Principles and Objectives
Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems – including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical ActivitiesMust be able to work in a hot, humid environment for extended periods; must be able to stand or walk for many hours in any of our production facilities. Enters and locates information on a computer, visually verifies information, often in small print, and communicates with customers, vendors, or employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups and move about in a manufacturing environment and surrounding property.
May travel by car or plane to various work locations.
As needed in the required environment.
TravelTravels domestically to and from multiple facilities or work‑sites or customer visits, sometimes requiring overnight stays. Approximately 50% travel.
Technical Experience4 years of experience in the field of Reliability and/or Maintenance.
Industry ExperiencePreference for leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment or other applicable experience.
Minimum EducationBachelor’s degree or 4 years related work experience with a minimum of 1 year experience in a leading role. Certifications with MMP, MRM, SMRP, CMRP, or in TPM are highly desirable, along with experience utilizing PDM technologies.
