SUMMARY

Our Church is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Finance Manager to oversee the daily financial operations of our growing, multi-campus ministry.

This is a hands-on accounting position responsible for managing payroll, accounts payable, donor accounting, reconciliations, fund accounting, and the day-to-day financial systems that support the Ministry of Redeemer.

Working closely with ED, this individual will ensure financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across multiple ministries and campuses. While training will be provided on our internal systems and procedures, this position requires an experienced accounting professional who can quickly assume ownership of payroll and daily accounting responsibilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Payroll Administration (Primary Ownership)
  • Independently manage bi-weekly payroll processing for all employees.
  • Review and audit employee timecards for accuracy and compliance with CA labor laws.
  • Process payroll deductions, garnishments, retirement contributions, and benefit elections.
  • Maintain employee payroll records and confidential personnel documentation.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual payroll reporting, including W-2s, payroll tax filings, and year-end processing.
  • Serve as the primary payroll resource for staff questions.
Accounting & Financial Operations
  • Manage accounts payable, expense reimbursements, and vendor payments.
  • Process and record contributions, online giving, and ministry deposits.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial close.
  • Maintain accurate financial documentation and electronic records.
  • Ensure all accounting transactions are properly coded and recorded.
Fund Accounting & Ministry Support
  • Maintain designated fund balances and ministry-restricted accounts.
  • Assist with grant, mission, and donor-restricted fund tracking.
  • Support ministry leaders with financial information as requested.
  • Prepare donor giving statements and maintain contribution records.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal financial protocals.
Compliance & Financial Stewardship
  • Maintain W-9 documentation and vendor files.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation.
  • Support insurance audits, workers' compensation reporting, and payroll compliance.
  • Help maintain strong internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all employee and financial information.
Leadership & Ownership

Although this position does not initially supervise staff, it serves as the operational owner of Redeemer's day-to-day accounting and payroll functions. The Finance Manager is expected to:

  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and financial processes.
  • Communicate proactively regarding financial issues.
  • Build trusted relationships with staff and ministry leaders.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent prof. experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
  • Demonstrated payroll administration experience.
  • Experience with nonprofit or fund accounting.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting principles.
  • Experience performing reconciliations and month-end close.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Quick Books or comparable accounting software.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines with accuracy.
  • High degree of integrity and confidentiality.
Preferred
  • Church finance experience.
  • Experience with Church database management systems.
  • Experience with online or church giving platforms.
  • Experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms.
  • Familiarity with California employment and payroll regulations.
CULTURE EXPECTATIONS
  • Within the first year, the Finance Manager will:
  • Independently manage church's payroll process.
  • Successfully oversee accounts payable and employee reimbursements.
  • Complete reconciliations accurately and on schedule.
  • Support timely month-end financial close.
  • Become the trusted point of contact for day-to-day accounting and payroll operations.
  • Maintain financial records that reflect excellence, integrity, and accountability.
