Cost Accountant

Description

A well-established manufacturing company in North County San Diego is adding a Cost Accountant to its finance team. This position is ideal for someone who understands that manufacturing accounting goes beyond the general ledger - you need to understand materials, labor, production, inventory, overhead, and margins.

You'll work directly with accounting, operations, purchasing, and production teams to ensure the company's costs are accurately captured and reported.

Key Responsibilities

+ Maintain and analyze standard and actual product costs

+ Review material, labor, and manufacturing overhead costs

+ Perform inventory reconciliations and investigate variances

+ Analyze production costs and identify unusual fluctuations

+ Prepare monthly cost and inventory reports

+ Assist with standard cost updates and annual cost reviews

+ Calculate and analyze manufacturing variances

+ Review bills of materials and production-related financial data

+ Partner with operations to understand production efficiencies and cost drivers

+ Assist with month-end close, including inventory and cost-related journal entries

+ Support physical inventory counts and cycle-count analysis

+ Analyze gross margin by product, customer, or product line

+ Assist with budgeting and forecasting related to production costs

+ Help improve costing procedures, reporting, and internal controls

+ Provide financial information to management to support pricing and operational decisions

Requirements

+ 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within manufacturing

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

+ Strong understanding of inventory accounting and cost accounting

+

Experience with standard costing and variance analysis

+ Advanced Excel skills

+ ERP experience required; manufacturing ERP experience strongly preferred

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

+ Comfortable working with both accounting and operations teams
