Position Summary
The Operations Business Analyst is responsible for driving data-backed insights across pricing, costs, margins, and overall profitability. The role focuses heavily on margin and pricing analytics to help the business understand performance across products, sales channels, and customer segments, while also supporting operational reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
This position requires strong analytical skills, advanced Excel and Power BI capabilities, and the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights. The Operations Business Analyst works cross-functionally with Product, Sales, and Operations partners to support informed decision-making and improve business performance.
Essential Duties Pricing, Cost, and Margin Analytics- Analyze gross margin performance by SKU, category, customer segment, sales channel, and region.
- Build and maintain pricing and margin models incorporating product cost, landed cost, discounts, freight, returns, and other margin drivers.
- Identify margin leakage and root causes (e.g., discounting behavior, incorrect costs, freight impacts, returns/damages, customer pricing gaps).
- Support pricing decisions through reporting and “what-if” analysis, including:
- Discount trends and approval thresholds
- Margin by order / customer / product
- Deliver clear insights and recommendations to Sales, Operations, and leadership.
- Track and report key operational KPIs such as service levels, backorders, lead times, inventory turns/aging, and freight performance.
- Support process improvement initiatives by quantifying impact and monitoring results.
- Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and recurring reporting for weekly/monthly reviews.
- Improve data quality and metric consistency by validating inputs and aligning definitions across teams.
- 2–5 years in an analytical role (Operations Analyst, Pricing Analyst, FP&A Analyst, Business Analyst, etc.).
- Strong understanding of cost, pricing, and margin concepts (COGS, landed cost, discounting, freight impact, profitability).
- Strong Power BI skills (data modeling, DAX measures, dashboards).
- Ability to communicate insights clearly and work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and comfort working with imperfect data to drive improvements.
- Experience in distribution, manufacturing, consumer goods, or e-commerce is preferred.
