Systems Administrator, IT Support
Olivenhain Municipal Water District is seeking candidates for the position of Systems Administrator. This position provides support to ensure computers, servers, and network systems operate efficiently and securely. This at‑will position reports to the Information Technology Supervisor. The pay range is $ – $ annually depending on candidate qualifications.
This role involves providing high‑level support and maintaining the district’s computer and network infrastructure. The incumbent must manage competing priorities, represent the district professionally, and support the District Strategic Plan and Mission Statement by acting as a positive role model. A working knowledge of safety rules and active participation in safety programs are required. Reliable, stable attendance and flexibility for evening and weekend work may be necessary.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
The following tasks are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not regularly perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business or staffing needs and changing business practices as defined by the General Manager.
- Admin (20%) / Senior (10%): Administers, monitors, and troubleshoots the district’s hardware, software, and network infrastructure to resolve issues and maintain efficient operation.
- Admin (15%) / Senior (15%): Monitors vendor and third‑party security reports and applies security patches proactively. Stays abreast of current developments and regulation changes in automation controls, information systems technologies, cybersecurity, and water utility industries to provide updates and integrate new methods and tools. Monitors and analyzes cybersecurity incident‑related data and determines the appropriate response.
- Admin (10%) / Senior (20%): Provides executive‑level support, guidance, and training. Plans, leads, and coordinates with lower‑level IT staff. Leads the development and maintenance of network security policies and practices, assists with defining global security policies, standards, guidelines and procedures, and performs disaster and recovery analysis, planning, implementation, testing and administration.
- Admin (15%) / Senior (10%): Provides technical assistance and support to end‑users for issues related to computers, software and peripherals; instructs end‑users on system operation and application usage.
- Admin (15%) / Senior (25%): Researches and recommends IT products and services; contributes to development of long‑range technology and cybersecurity planning; participates in developing the department’s annual budget; places orders for equipment and supplies once approved; coordinates maintenance and purchasing with outside vendors.
- Admin (5%) / Senior (5%): Schedules and completes work to move, connect, change, install, back‑up, repair, test, or remove equipment such as personal computers, servers, network hardware, and cabling.
- Admin (10%) / Senior (5%): Assists with administration of the telephone system and performs additional tasks such as software and hardware upgrades, printer configuration, user account administration, helpdesk support, and audio‑visual equipment configuration and maintenance.
Performs all related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION- Internal contact:
Supervisor for work direction and review of results, district employees for hardware, software, or networking issues. - External contact:
Contractors, vendors, government agencies and officials to discuss, advise and resolve information systems issues.
- Good hearing, eyesight and speech; excellent verbal and written communication ability.
- Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and peripherals; tolerate periods of continuous sitting and exposure to a computer screen.
- May infrequently assist with lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Primarily performed in an enclosed office setting with lighting and ventilation; background office noise.
- Long periods of sitting and computer screen exposure.
- When working outside, subject to variable weather, heavy equipment, dust, fumes, odor and noise; personal safety equipment provided.
