Ubiquity Solar is a fast-growing manufacturing company bringing both Silicon and Thin Film PV (Photovoltaic) Solar manufacturing to Upstate New York, Southern Tier. Ubiquity Solar produces a vertically integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) cell manufacturer leveraging conventional and advanced environmentally friendly solar technologies. We supply solar PV products primarily to the electric power generation and aerospace/transportation sectors in both the United States and Canada.

This Manufacturing Engineering Manager role will support the Thin Film PV operations. The Manufacturing Engineering team plays a critical role in the successful operation of Ubiquity Solar high- efficiency thin film solar manufacturing process. With a focus on expanding manufacturing capacity and product yields, the team is responsible for reestablishing production capacity using tooling relocated from a previous factory and driving requirements for increased capacity to the site’s full potential.

The team will work closely with facilities, EHS to ensure a safe and environmentally compliant operation. What we need:
Ubiquity Solar is seeking a technically accomplished Director/Manager to build a team of engineers that supports start-up of and expansion of our manufacturing processes in a high-volume production facility. In this role, you will be a hands-on technical leader responsible for building the team needed to support equipment installation, process deployment and future tooling. The ideal candidate is a versatile and open-minded manager with strong communication skills to work with and guide teams to timely project completion.

This role will also play and important part in strengthening our strong environmental, societal and governance (“ESG”) commitment to develop an exceptional culture to attract and develop the best people, partners, customers, and investors in the industry while exceeding all safety and environmental requirements. In this role, you will report to the VP of Operations. You will be based in our Endicott office. More specifically, in this role you will:
• Build and lead a team of engineers that will start-up and expand manufacturing capacity along with driving robust process and equipment capabilities able to deliver a stable manufacturing process in areas such as; o GaAs wafer cleaning, etching, and polishing o Thin film deposition and lamination o Solar cell patterning and metallization o Solar cell and module assembly, encapsulation, testing, and characterization
• Work closely with all factory organizations to ensure operational safety, resolve factory issues, and drive engineering activities.
• Be an act advocate to represent the engineering resource needs to optimize process and tool performance for high volume manufacturing.
• Identify opportunities to improve production yield, efficiency, capacity, safety, and cost. Design, conduct, analyze and enable methods to optimize the process manufacturing capability and translate the learnings to a robust manufacturing process.
• Support installation of process tooling along with provide guidance and recommend solutions to resolve process and equipment start-up issues.
• Develop factory procedures, provide training for operations, and support daily production needs.
• Drive quality through use of SPC and advanced data analysis techniques. Determine process windows and sensitivities. Apply analysis to help implement controls in production.

Preferred qualifications:

• Advanced degree in engineering or equivalent and over 15 years of related experience
• A minimum of 8 years of managerial experience in process engineering, equipment engineering, process integration, and yield enhancement including use of rigorous transfer methodologies. Able to work effectively in demanding manufacturing environments and production ramp.
