Position Overview

STOWE Early Learning Center is seeking a passionate and dedicated Head Start Teacher to join our early childhood education team. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports the growth of the whole child—socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment.
  • Use developmentally appropriate practices to support children’s learning through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments and observations to individualize instruction and monitor progress.
  • Collaborate with families, support staff, and community partners to promote family engagement and student success.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with Head Start and district guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (required).
  • CTDOE Early Childhood Certification.
  • Experience working in a Head Start or early childhood setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development and early learning best practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Best Practices in Head Start Teaching
  • Whole Child Approach: Address cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language development.
  • Family Engagement: Partner with families as primary educators and advocates for their children.
  • Culturally Responsive Teaching: Honor and reflect the diverse backgrounds of students and families.
  • Play-Based Learning: Use intentional play to promote exploration, creativity, and problem-solving.
  • Positive Behavior Support: Foster self-regulation and social skills through modeling and guidance.
  • Ongoing Professional Development: Engage in reflective practice and continuous learning.
