Job DescriptionEnfield Public Schools is seeking a caring, energetic, and dedicated Special Education K‑2 Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will support young learners’ academic, social, and emotional development and provide a joyful, developmentally appropriate introduction to school. This position emphasizes building foundational skills and fostering a lifelong love of learning.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement developmentally appropriate, standards‑aligned lesson plans that integrate early childhood and special education best practices, including differentiated instruction, explicit teaching, and individualized supports.
- Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that supports the social, emotional, physical, and academic growth of all students, including those with diverse learning needs.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, including play‑based, hands‑on, and multi‑sensory approaches, with appropriate scaffolding, visual supports, and structured routines to ensure accessibility for all learners.
- Support the development of early literacy, numeracy, and social‑emotional skills through evidence‑based and developmentally responsive practices.
- Foster curiosity, communication, creativity, and collaboration while promoting student engagement and independence.
- Assess and monitor student progress using ongoing formative assessment practices and use data to inform instruction and provide targeted interventions.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with families to support student learning and development across home and school settings.
- Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, families, and the broader school community to support inclusive practices and meet individual student needs.
- Participate in ongoing professional learning to remain current with early childhood standards, special education practices, and effective instructional strategies.
- Valid CTDOE certification in Comprehensive Special Education, PreK–12 (165).
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related Special Education.
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and kindergarten instructional practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a positive, engaging, and nurturing learning environment.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and collaboration.
- Experience teaching kindergarten or early primary grades.
- Experience integrating technology in developmentally appropriate ways.
- Knowledge of best practices in early childhood instruction.
- Experience working in a diverse and inclusive school community.
