Job Scope
The Senior Systems Engineer is a role within HENSOLDT UK, a trading name of Kelvin Hughes Limited, in the Systems Engineering group. The position involves participation in company‑ and customer‑funded systems projects based on state‑of‑the‑art solid‑state radar technology.
Job Functions – Essential- Experience of systems design, integration & test.
- Good understanding of systems and product life cycles from concept through delivery.
- Strong grasp of a range of engineering disciplines (software, mechanical, electrical).
- Knowledge of risk management from conception to project acceptance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all organisational levels and externally.
- Capability to mentor junior colleagues.
- Flexibility to apply skills across multiple projects and products.
- Computer‑literacy with a high standard of written English, capable of compiling accurate, detailed technical proposals, specifications and reports.
- Willingness to travel; the role is based at Enfield premises but requires business travel as needed.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Eligible to apply for UK security clearance.
- Understanding of radar and radio systems (desirable, but not essential).
- Experience with the full product lifecycle (concept generation, demonstration, development, production, in‑service support).
- Experience forming work packages and generating project plans.
- Experience leading design reviews.
- Experience with test houses and external verification against MIL‑STD/Def‑Stan/IEC.
- Experience with communications protocols (e.g., RS485, RS232, TCP‑IP, CANbus).
- Experience in product development for naval platforms.
- Experience with navigation equipment.
- Familiarity with multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers.
- Basic electronics and circuit‑level fault‑finding knowledge.
- Manual soldering and hand‑tool proficiency.
- Understanding of EMC and ESD environments.
- Ability to lead multi‑skilled engineering teams.
- Ability to deliver engineering packages on time, within cost and quality targets.
- Membership of a professional engineering institution (e.g., IMechE, IET, INCOSE).
- Capability to compile standard bid proposals.
- Degree level or equivalent engineering, mathematics or physics qualification (relevant experience accepted).
- Motivated and initiative‑driven, planning activities to achieve timely results with minimal supervision.
- Confident manner and professional appearance suitable for a customer‑facing role.
- Adaptable, resourceful and proactive approach.
- Strong communication, presentation, and time‑management skills.
- Customer‑ and results‑focused; good problem‑solving and attention to detail.
- Team player, willing to support others.
- Energy and enthusiasm.
- Compliance with operational instructions, company policies, reporting and controls, and health and safety duties as per the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Cooperation with employer to enable duty compliance, including appropriate PPE use.
- Non‑compliance may lead to disciplinary procedures.
