The MHST Clinician and Supervisor will have several key roles within the team. They will offer supervision to trainee and qualified Education Mental Health Practitioners or Children's Wellbeing Practitioners, who are part of a new workforce within CAMHS to deliver early intervention work, and some aspects of clinical service delivery, including direct psychological interventions and consultation to schools. Alongside supervision, overtime the post holder's caseload will include children and adolescents with mild moderate emotional and mental health difficulties and will deliver evidence-based 1:1 and group interventions, employing the principles underpinning the national CYP-IAPT programme (Children and Young Peoples Improving Access to Psychological Therapies).

Over time the post holder will develop relationships with designated mental health Leads in schools to help them develop approaches for mental health and wellbeing in their schools, and gain experience of teaching, training and consultation. The post holder will be joining four other MHST Supervisors and Clinicians with lots of opportunities for peer support and career development, and working within a large multi-disciplinary team.

Applicants must have a core profession in relevant field such as Psychology, Mental Health Nurse, Social worker, Therapist and must be registered with UK relevant professional body. Training will be provided for applicant without supervision training.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care, when and where appropriate.
  • To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of psychotherapeutic interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, including adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining several provisional hypotheses.
  • To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models.
  • To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients' formulation, understanding around their presentation, and support plan.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and where appropriate to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
