Job Description

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as part of a healthcare team within a specialty department by assisting with procedures, planning and implementing care interventions, and promoting high‑quality patient care in a professional, efficient, and safe manner. The LPN manages time to maintain patient flow, provides personal assistance and medical attention, offers emotional support, keeps knowledge up to date, and applies it to everyday practice.

Effective communication with all team members supports a cohesive work environment. The LPN works under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse.

Essential Functions &

Job Responsibilities
  • Office Visits
    • Introduces self to patient while escorting into the exam room.
    • Prepares patient for exams and procedures.
    • Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions.
    • Administers medications, including injections and IV therapy as needed.
    • Provides basic patient care and treatments such as dressing wounds, performing catheterizations, or applying compresses.
    • Collects, labels, and processes specimens accurately.
    • Cleans and prepares medical treatment rooms for patient visits.
    • Assembles and uses equipment appropriate to specific medical practice.
    • Schedules follow‑up appointments for patients as needed.
    • Communicates delays effectively when necessary.
  • Charting
    • Enters patient information into the computer accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Manages the physician’s desktop accurately and efficiently.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Provides clerical support to patients, including making appointments, booking procedures, obtaining pre‑authorizations, and answering telephones.
    • Manages medical inventory and supply ordering based on par levels.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an LPN school program.
  • Current licensure as an LPN in the state of Connecticut.
  • IV and/or phlebotomy skills preferred.
  • Completes competency skill checklist within the first 3 months.
