Precision Contractors is a nationally recognized commercial general contractor specializing in retail, restaurant, healthcare, office, industrial, and specialty construction projects across the United States. We are looking for an experienced Senior Construction Accountant to join our growing team and play a key role in managing the financial success of our projects.
Position Summary
The Senior Construction Accountant / Project Job Cost Accountant is a hands-on position responsible for maintaining and managing the financial health of the company and construction projects. This role will maintain and ensure accurate cost tracking, budget control, financial reporting, and compliance with GAAP and contractual requirements. The position partners closely with other Accountants, project management and executive leadership to support company and project profitability.
Responsibilities
- Manage project job cost accounting and maintain accurate financial records.
- Monitor project budgets, committed costs, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
- Prepare and review monthly WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Reconcile project costs, retainage, contract assets, and general ledger accounts.
- Review subcontractor and vendor invoices for proper coding, contract compliance, and payment approval.
- Track contracts, purchase orders, change orders, and subcontract balances.
- Prepare job cost reports, budget vs. actual reports, and executive financial summaries.
- Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Assist with AIA billing, progress billing, and project financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, construction contracts, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Operations, Executive Leadership, and external auditors to improve project profitability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of construction accounting or project accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of:
- Job Cost Accounting, Cost Codes
- WIP Reporting
- Percentage-of-Completion Accounting
- Revenue Recognition
- Construction Contracts and Change Orders
- Experience with Foundation, Procore, or similar construction ERP software a plus.
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with project management processes and terminology.
- Experience with construction project accounting, including billing schedules, AIA forms, and change orders.
- Knowledge of lien releases and subcontractor compliance documentation.
- CPA or CMA certification (or progress toward certification) is a plus.
