Purpose:
Your role as a Tax Director includes owning client relationships and providing holistic tax services. In short, you’ll act as an "in-house" or "fractional" tax director for your clients. Among other things, the services you’ll provide will include federal, state, and local income tax compliance (with an emphasis on corporate compliance), assistance with ASC 740 reporting, tax planning, and structuring advice.
If a client is facing a tax-related issue, we either provide the service ourselves or refer them to someone who can.
You’ll work closely with clients, management, and internal teams on all phases of project and engagement management. You’ll be expected to own client relationships and to provide the best service you can. You’ll also be involved in mentoring and training staff, assisting the management team with business and process improvements, and some business development initiatives.
You are the ideal candidate if you are a collaborative, proactive leader with strong technical tax expertise, including significant experience with C-corporation and ASC 740 tax provisions. You’ll also need exceptional communication skills and the ability to manage multiple complex engagements simultaneously while delivering a high level of client service.

- Provide exceptional client service, including meeting all compliance deadlines and proactively communicating with clients.
- Ensure assigned tax returns are completed accurately and within required deadlines
- Manage IRS and state tax audit examinations and support successful resolution efforts
- Manage and review multiple projects and client engagements simultaneously
- Delegate work appropriately and hold team members accountable for deliverables
- Initiate proactive communication regarding project status, technical issues, workloads, and expected delivery dates
- Perform technical review of tax compliance and consulting engagements to ensure quality and accuracy
- Research and resolve complex tax issues impacting clients
- Review complex federal and state income tax returns for C-Corporations, S-Corporations, and LLCs
- Manage client accounts, including billing, fee analysis, and identification of additional service opportunities
- Stay informed on general business trends and tax developments relevant to clients and the firm
- Mentor, supervise, develop, and train tax team members through coaching, guidance, and performance feedback
- Support compliance with Circular 230, AICPA Statements of Standards, and other regulatory requirements
- Participate in business development activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Strong technical tax knowledge, particularly related to C-corporations and ASC 740 provision preparation, with flow-through tax experience a plus
- Strong competency in tax law research, technical review, and application of professional standards
- Extensive knowledge of Internal Revenue Code regulations and tax research resources
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments of varying size and complexity within established deadlines and budgets
- Strong understanding of accounting, particularly as it relates to tax accounts
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities
- Proficiency in tax software and related systems including GoSystem Tax and Microsoft Office products
- Provide overall leadership and support to the tax team
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws
- Support team development, engagement, accountability, and performance management
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or licensed attorney designation strongly preferred
- Minimum of twelve 12 years of experience in public accounting and/or as a leader in a corporate tax department, experience in both preferred
- Experience with complex C-corporation compliance engagements
- Significant experience preparing and reviewing ASC 740 tax provision calculations
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
