Position Summary

This position supports teachers with small group and one‑on‑one instruction, clerical duties, supervision, student feedback, and redirection. The learning support position is designed to provide support for special‑needs students with cognitive challenges, utilizing a functional academic approach. Students may have cognitive, perceptual, motor, and/or speech/language delays and require assistance with academic skills, development of compensatory strategies, social skills improvement, and exploration of pre‑vocational skills.

The paraprofessional provides transportation support to and from the school site during morning and afternoon bus runs and helps develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Comply with Student Support Services and district policies and procedures (e.g., Medicaid documentation, accident reporting)
  • Facilitate and support small groups and/or one‑on‑one instruction to reinforce skills, concepts, and strategies
  • Elicit responses from every member of the group
  • Ensure that all students understand the material
  • Lead multi‑level students to work together effectively
  • Promote a learning environment that respects the child’s dignity and is perceived by students as fair and consistent
  • Support a learning environment that establishes routines and provides for student engagement through questioning, speculation, and originality
  • Encourage a learning environment that is safe for responding and questioning, even for the shyest student
  • Collaborate with team members regarding activities, planning, and resources for special education students
  • Provide assistance to and supervise students to and from buses
  • Prepare materials for various types of interventions
  • Assist with test administration, scoring, data entry, and report generation
  • Actively participate in PLCs and other required training
  • Apply and implement knowledge, skills, and new understandings to support instructional programming
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Education, Training, and Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Bachelor of Arts (preferred)
  • Bilingual (preferred)
  • English fluency to be determined through the interview process
Licenses or Certifications
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Current CPR and First Aid (or willing to obtain within the first six months of employment)

  • Frequent lifting of 5 to 10 pounds

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. May encounter noise, odors, and bodily fluids. Mostly clean and comfortable.
