Amentum is seeking a high performing Project Engineer II to lead the technical execution of Engineering projects supporting our National Security and National Laboratory customers. This is a great position for those looking to transition their career from the Engineering Design track to the Management track, with an affinity for supporting projects that are actively in the Conceptual or Detailed Design phase, as well as projects supporting Procurement and Construction Support activities.
Project Engineers must possess a high aptitude for coordinating multi‑disciplinary technical teams through the design evolution process, decoding and spearheading resolution to multi‑disciplinary engineering issues in collaboration with other Project Engineers and/or the Project Engineering and Project Manager, while representing the interest of, and providing best value for our customers.
On a typical day a Project Engineer will engage with one or more engineering disciplines assigned to the project. Primarily inward facing to support the needs of Engineering, the Project Engineer is also outward facing to the customer, helping to communicate technical objectives in a manner clear to both the Project Manager and the customer. As the project’s technical representative, the Project Engineer will establish a reporting structure that promotes open communications to ensure timely identification of challenges or issues that may pose risk to the project, the organization, and/or Amentum as a whole.
Key Responsibilities- Orchestrate the design of a technically sound, safe and operable plant with a high degree of reliability.
- Coordinate the discipline’s engineering with that of other disciplines.
- Lead planning and scheduling of engineering tasks within a specific discipline and coordinate discipline(s) schedule and budget to meet project requirements and obtain approval.
- Manage the delivery of Inter‑Discipline Design Reviews.
- Work with Principal Engineers and Supervising Discipline Engineers to determine labor‑hour requirements and schedules consistent with the project requirements.
- Maintain technical coordination with the Principal / Supervising Discipline Engineer to ensure adherence to industry codes, regulatory requirements and sound engineering practices.
- Direct the preparation and submit reports and forecasts on the status of the discipline.
- Advise the Project Engineering Manager / Project Manager regarding status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems.
- Identify and address technical issues with the aim of constructing and implementing process improvements.
- Ensure quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks.
- Lead the project change control process and train others to identify potential changes.
- Identify and ensure compliance with regulatory, licensing and state requirements.
- Prepare and issue Engineering Execution Plans such as pre‑job briefs, and ensure that all necessary and appropriate customer requirements, procedures and standards are incorporated.
- Keep the Project Manager, Principal Engineers and/or Supervising Discipline Engineers advised of project progress, performance and manpower utilization with particular attention to delays, adverse trends, errors and omissions.
- Assure proper documentation of meetings, agreements, conversations, etc. that affect the conduct of the project.
- Coordinate the customers’ engineering comments, approvals and requests with the functional activities of all disciplines.

Minimum Requirements- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university.
