Boom Supersonic is building the Overture supersonic airliner and the Superpower natural gas turbine. We are looking for a Propulsion Engineer on Engine Structures to work on the Symphony turbofan engine that will power the Overture airliner.
Role Overview- Work in the structural and stress engineering domains for the Superpower gas turbine engine, including static and rotating components
- Perform structural metrics and life assessments using applicable analytical methods and analyses (FEA)
- Develop and integrate tool chains and processes, including multi‑disciplinary workflows and automation
- Participate in all aspects of Superpower engine development and propulsion system integration, including fabrication and testing
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of professional experience
- Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages
- Experience in structural assessments of rotating and non‑rotating components for axial turbo machinery applications (Goodman diagram, Campbell diagram, etc.)
- Experience with fatigue phenomena such as flutter, HCF, LCF, thermo‑mechanical fatigue, etc.
- Experience with analytical tools such as ANSYS Mechanical or NASTRAN
- Collaborate with aero, thermal, SAS to find structural solutions that meet all loads and failure mode cases
- Ability to navigate CAD to support module integration efforts in the engine
- Strong communication skills, ability to give and receive feedback, and to build consensus
- Component or module ownership in a turbo machinery program or product
- Experience with engine rig tests, bearings, or rotor dynamics
- Knowledge of engine mounts and dynamic load scenarios such as fan blade failure and sustained imbalance under windmilling
- Supersonic jet engine or gas turbine engine design experience
- Part 33 commercial certification experience
- Experience with advanced materials such as superalloys
- Experience simulating impact dynamics in LS‑DYNA
- Experience developing tools that incorporate structural analysis into multi‑discipline analysis and design workflows (MDAO)
- Background in developing design tools, methods or processes
- Testing and data‑reduction experience
- Desire to avoid bureaucracy and move fast in a dynamic environment
- P2 Level – 0‑5 years of experience – Base salary range: $85,000 – $105,000
- P3 Level – 5‑10 years of experience – Base salary range: $105,000 – $130,000
- P4 Level – 10‑15 years of experience – Base salary range: $130,000 – $170,000
Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and performance. The salary range is one component of Boom’s total rewards package, which may include long‑term incentives, equity, flexible PTO, and progressive benefits that support employee well‑being and growth.
ITAR RequirementTo conform to U.S. Government aerospace technology export regulations (ITAR and EAR), applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents of the U.S., protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C § 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
