Electrical​/Instrumentation & Controls Designer - Energy & Industrial

Overview

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement. You'll spend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

• Utilize and expand your drafting skills while working in a multidisciplinary team environment with other designers and engineers in the preparation of design drawings.
• Apply computer‑aided drafting skills and receive hands‑on training in design software environments such as AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
• Work as part of the Energy & Industrial Group as an Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls designer for a variety of projects including Power Generation Stations, Oil & Gas facilities, Carbon Capture/Emissions Controls, etc.
• Create physical and plan drawings to scale, showing the relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and providing exact specifications and dimensions, as well as various non‑physical drawings and diagrams.
• Accompany and assist experienced designers on walk‑downs at client facilities to gather information for your design project.
• Interface with vendors and construction contractors to explain drawings so that appropriate design adjustments can be made.
• Utilize company and project drafting and design standards and adhere to plans and schedules.

• A high school diploma and equivalent technical design experience.
• Six (6) or more years of Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls design experience, including 2D & 3D.
• Advanced drafting experience using standard computer drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD or Micro Station) on power plants or other large‑scale industrial facilities projects.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
• Ability to multi‑task from project to project.

• Associate’s Degree in Computer Aided Design.
• Experience using both AutoCAD and Micro Station software.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
• Experience in the development of grounding layouts, underground duct bank, embedded conduit drawings, cable tray, exposed conduit layouts, instrument location plans, area classification plans, and electrical equipment location drawings.
• Design experience in the development of single‑line, relay and metering diagrams, including medium‑voltage and 480 V systems.
• Familiarity with digital control systems.
• Ability to produce wiring diagrams and schematics for installers and electricians.
• Assist engineers with initial design requirements.
• Conceptualize plans and details to accurately convey wiring termination requirements.
• Ability to interface and communicate with engineering and design teams of other disciplines in the Energy & Industrial facilities design process.
• Strong knowledge and ability to create interconnection wiring diagrams, conduit/cable schedules, loop diagrams, area classification plans.
• Experience with 3‑D lighting calculation programs and experience in heat trace design preferred.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, instrumentation wiring and provide I&C input into P&IDs.
• Ability to travel as necessary for client meetings, job site visits, and data gathering.
