This role is for a Materials and Processes Engineer – Metals supporting the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program, with work spanning both laboratory and manufacturing environments. The engineer will work side by side with designers, test, and manufacturing engineers to develop, qualify, and improve metallic materials and welding processes that must survive extremely hostile service environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Lead internal and external root-cause investigations of welding issues and recommend corrective actions that improve weld quality and productivity.

Conduct on-site supplier audits and weld quality inspections to ensure that vendor hardware meets required standards and specifications.

Support cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, materials engineering) with process improvements and resolution of fabrication and weld-related issues.

Review engineering designs, drawings, and processes, providing clear, actionable feedback on materials and joining methods.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Experience reviewing engineering designs, drawings, and processes and providing clear, technically sound feedback.

Fundamental understanding of welding processes including, but not limited to, resistance, electron beam, laser beam, plasma arc, friction stir, GTAW, and GMAW.

Experience designing, planning, and executing welding certifications.

Experience with metallic materials, including refractory metals.

Active or current Top Secret security clearance required; must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain the required government clearance.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Experience communicating regularly with internal and external customers.

Non-conformance and failure analysis disposition experience.

Prior coordination or oversight of hardware suppliers and subcontractors, particularly for weld-related or metallic hardware.

Ability to multi-task and handle shifting priorities and timeline pressure to meet project and production deadlines.

Comfort communicating in a variety of forums and working with management and program representatives at multiple levels.

Self-starter who develops solutions to technical issues and is able to work closely within a geographically diverse team to resolve technical problems.
