Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location:
Hybrid in Englewood, CO
Pay: $120-150k DOE
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC and mechanical systems design for commercial projects and retrofits. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing efficient, code-compliant HVAC systems, guiding project delivery from concept through construction, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, clients and contractors. This role emphasizes technical leadership, quality control, and practical field experience to ensure reliable mechanical infrastructure and successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead HVAC system design for commercial new-build and retrofit projects, including load calculations, equipment selection, and system layout.
- Develop and review detailed mechanical drawings and specifications using AutoCAD and Revit MEP; produce coordinated ductwork and piping plans.
- Perform HVAC design tasks including heating, ventilation, air distribution, ductwork sizing, and piping system design for mechanical infrastructure.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable HVAC codes, standards, and energy requirements; prepare documentation for permit submission.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and contractors to integrate mechanical systems into overall building design.
- Prepare cost estimates, equipment schedules, and material lists; manage project budgets and schedules as required.
- Conduct site visits, field inspections, and support construction administration, including reviewing shop drawings and responding to RFIs.
- Oversee commissioning and integration of building automation systems to optimize HVAC performance and occupant comfort.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff; lead design reviews and quality assurance processes.
- Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders to present technical solutions, progress updates, and project deliverables.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience with a strong focus on HVAC system design for commercial projects and retrofits.
- Demonstrated proficiency with HVAC design principles, load calculations, ductwork and piping design, and mechanical infrastructure planning.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP; experience producing coordinated construction drawings and BIM models.
- Familiarity with HVAC codes and standards and experience preparing permit-ready documentation.
- Experience with commercial retrofit projects and practical field coordination.
- Strong technical writing, client communication, and project management skills.
- EIT license is a plus; PE (Professional Engineer) registration is preferred but not required.
