Position Summary
HDR is seeking an Engineering Principal for its Colorado building engineering team. This key leadership role is part of the integrated Architecture/Engineering practice located in Denver, Colorado and focuses on delivering high-quality design solutions and driving business growth.
Primary Responsibilities- Play a significant role in business development and grow market share in specific A/E markets using expertise and network.
- Provide senior-level project leadership in your engineering discipline and areas of market expertise.
- Build and maintain executive-level client relationships and serve as Client Manager for key/strategic accounts.
- Develop and execute market sector strategies, identify target clients and high-value expansion opportunities.
- Lead go/no-go evaluations, pursuit strategy, and proposal development for strategic and must-win opportunities.
- Collaborate with HDR Architecture and Engineering teams on project pursuits.
- Participate in discipline-level and project-level scope/fee development for project pursuits.
- Participate in project interviews as an engineering leader.
- Assist in attracting, recruiting and hiring outstanding new team members to grow and strengthen the practice.
- Represent HDR through active participation in the professional community to build HDR’s reputation.
- Perform other duties as needed to advance HDR’s stature and market penetration.
- Demonstrate exceptional leadership and maintain the standard of practice for world‑class project execution.
- Serve as Project Manager, Senior Engineer or Engineer‑of‑Record on selected projects.
- Serve as a senior technical advisor to multiple projects involving complex technical challenges.
- Conduct QC and technical reviews and provide guidance on active projects.
- Mentor and coach team members on nuances of your professional markets.
- Degree in Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering.
- Substantial engineering experience, project history, and professional network in Colorado and beyond in one or more of these market sectors: higher education, hospitality/hotels, healthcare, aerospace, commercial real estate, mission‑critical facilities, aviation.
- Demonstrable experience and success in architecture/engineering business development in Colorado.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- 15 years of related experience.
- Minimum 7 years of project management experience.
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
- Experience with MS Office and MS Project;
Access experience is a plus. - Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills.
