Position: Senior Piping Stress Engineer 1 - Nuclear

Piping Engineering & Analysis Synopsis

The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline performs evaluations for piping systems in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and other applicable codes. Specialty topics include:

  • Vibration monitoring and analysis to evaluate operational vibrations from plant modifications and operating events, and to provide vibration prevention and mitigation solutions and designs.
  • Evaluation of hydraulic transients, thermal stratification effects, operability evaluations, and qualification of piping for hydrodynamic loads.
  • Pipe rupture evaluations and pipe wall thinning due to flow‑accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiological‑induced corrosion (MIC), as well as pipe flaw evaluations.
Responsibilities
  • Provide senior‑level technical support by preparing and reviewing calculations and designs of a complex nature.
  • Prepare and review complex calculations, system/structural designs, and material specifications.
  • Prepare documented design input for drawing production (e.g., P&IDs, Master Diagrams) and perform engineering review of drawings.
  • Prepare bid evaluations for systems and larger components, including economic calculations and vendor data solicitation.
  • Prepare and review simple reports/studies, project budgets, schedules, and work plans; monitor own work to ensure timely and within‑budget completion.
  • Provide single‑discipline input to proposals and effective written and oral communication to project team members and managers.
  • Summarize meeting notes and present technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Lead others in applying modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost‑effective designs; oversee automated calculations and reviewed outputs.
  • Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks.
  • Commit to a hybrid work schedule, requiring in‑office work 3 days per week.
Essential Skills And Experience
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program, with emphasis on solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
  • Knowledge of the design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elements.
  • Working knowledge of commercially available piping products and their application.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience
  • P.E. license.
  • Ability to navigate a 3D CAD model.
  • Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software.
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
  • Knowledge of pipe condition assessment.
  • Experience with ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical ADP.

Compensation Range

$84,762 - $129,498
