Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates technical expertise in disciplinary field.
- Leads a team of electrical engineers and designers to develop an innovative, high quality solution.
- Identifies project staffing requirements and coordinates staffing with supporting organization managers.
- Oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project.
- Reviews expenditures within limitations of project budget.
- Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Interfaces with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met.
- Coordinates with vendors and other disciplines for consistency in the design.
- Prepares technical specifications.
- Mentors junior engineers in the business, business practices, and position requirements.
- Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
- Have technical expertise to review and approve Electrical engineering calculations and drawings in the areas of: power distribution equipment, power system short circuit, load flow, one‑line diagrams, cable ampacity calculations, cable schedules, cable and raceway routing, schematics and wiring diagrams, grounding, lightning and lighting drawings, E‑House layout drawings and heat loss calculations, procurement specifications, material requisitions and technical bid analysis.
- Have technical expertise to review and approve Instrumentation and Controls drawings in the areas of: P&, Instrument and I/O lists, Basic PLC, DCS, HMI and network architecture, Control schematics and panels.
- Apply knowledge of project change control process to identify potential changes.
- Provide reports to the Project Manager about status of assignment(s) with respect to project milestones, schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems; assist with the development of manpower, man‑hour, and labor cost requirements; monitor them to aid in evaluating budget limitations; take the lead on estimating tasks and perform material take‑offs for a specific discipline; ensure quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks;
adjust project milestones and schedules as required. - Plan and schedule engineering efforts associated with assigned project; maintain timely and accurate oral and written technical reports regarding assigned engineering activities; keep proper engineering files and records; develop understanding of industry codes and standards; prepare and participate in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and perform basic QA/QC for electrical equipment such as motors, transformers, switch gear and motor control centers, PLC cabinets and HMI;
travel to site to assist in the start‑up and commissioning of the project. - Review of vendor and contractor document submittals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with specialty in Control, Power Systems (or both) Engineering followed by a minimum of 8–10 years of related progressive, post‑baccalaureate experience in electrical engineering or related electrical engineering occupation.
- PE License.
- Electrical Project engineering experience in the execution of project scope.
- Working experience with related industry codes and standards – NEC or IEC.
- Electrical power system equipment sizing for systems that range from 12
VDC to 13,800
VAC. - Understanding of Instrumentation and Controls.
- Inter‑discipline review and interface requirements.
- Manage 3rd party sub‑contractors.
- Master’s Degree Desired, not Required.
- Bilingual in Spanish, French considered an asset.
- Knowledge of mining and/or bulk material handling industries.
- Power system analysis, including short‑circuit calculation, voltage drop calculation, motor starting analysis and arc flash studies utilizing either ETAP or SKM power system analysis software.
- Experience in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) on Control and/or Power Distribution equipment such as medium voltage switch gear.
- Experience in the handling of electrical power & control and instrument circuits by generating schematics and interconnection diagrams on projects utilizing computerized AutoCAD.
- Drawing Software: 2D using AutoCAD.
- Electrical Software: ETAP or SKM, Smart Plant, E-Plan.
- Programming Software: PLC and/or HMI.
