Substation Commissioning Engineer

We are seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support substation projects across Colorado. This role focuses on final testing, validation, and energization of substation systems.

Responsibilities

+ Support commissioning efforts in greenfield and brownfield substations.

+ Perform protection and controls testing and validation.

+ Review and execute relay testing and logic verification.

+ Work with three-phase electrical systems.

+ Provide final sign-off prior to energization of substations and equipment.

Essential Skills

+ 5+ years of experience in substation commissioning.

+ Hands-on experience in commissioning and final energization support.

+ Strong experience in protection & controls testing.

+

Experience with relay testing and logic verification.

+ Solid understanding of three-phase electrical systems.

+ Ability to take ownership of final checks before energization.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Electrical engineering degree preferred (PE strongly preferred).

+ Sr. relay technicians with 10-15+ years of experience considered in lieu of degree.

+ Substation design experience.

+ Relay setting development.

+ Project leadership exposure.

Work Environment

This role requires travel across Colorado, typically for short durations of up to 2 weeks at a time, with approximately 60% of the work based in the Denver Metro area. The position involves working in live, high-impact environments at the final stages of energization. Candidates must be comfortable with fieldwork. The role offers a clear path into leadership roles such as Project Manager, Field Service Manager, and Operations.

Relocation and sign-on bonus are available for strong candidates, and there is a mix of local (Denver Metro) and travel assignment

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Centennial, CO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
