This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector, supporting Advanced Power Generation (APG) projects and building critical infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's challenges. Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support these advanced industrial and commercial facilities. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects.

Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying structural foundation and steel models, drawings, and details using advanced techniques in industry standard design tools, such as Bentley Open Buildings, AutoCAD, Micro Station, and Bluebeam. Provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.

Key responsibilities include functions in a project engineering technician capacity, supporting engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables, applying foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions, utilizing digital tools and design software to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables, providing technical guidance and ensuring quality and consistency across project outputs, applying knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures, reviewing project requirements and determining the correct format and contents of the required deliverables, proactively applying BV Quality Program to deliverables, demonstrating personal accuracy and supporting continuous improvement and change management efforts, reviewing design inputs to ensure consistency, assisting to ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project, applying basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables, beginning to apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation, capable of handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and providing technical guidance to other professionals, performing design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records, reviewing the deliverables of others, defining work assignments and maintaining schedules, programming control systems or participating in other plant start-up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise, coordinating with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development, supporting field activities, focusing on the needs of internal clients while utilizing an understanding of external client's main interests and drivers, proactively seeking and sharing knowledge of latest technologies and processes, applying judgment and making decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.

Preferred qualifications include a diploma or certificate, an associate degree in drafting or an engineering design related technology. Minimum qualifications typically require a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
