An opportunity to join Sargent & Lundy’s Nuclear Power Group as an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer and digitize nuclear power plants. The role involves working on multi‑disciplinary teams and leveraging control systems knowledge in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Work on multi‑disciplinary engineering teams involved in nuclear power plant Instrumentation and Control projects, integrating electrical, computer, mechanical engineering and control theory.
  • Use electronic process sensors, digital controllers, network topology, touchscreen displays, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines and reactors.
  • Prepare specifications for procurement of instrumentation and controls equipment and perform engineering calculations.
  • Participate in mentoring, classroom‑style technical sessions and on‑the‑job training to increase knowledge and skills.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and plant site locations for project coordination and field verification of designs.
  • Support station outage activities as required.

Position is based on a hybrid work schedule with in‑office work 3 days per week.

Essential Skills
  • BS or MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program with strong academic background in analog and digital control systems.
  • 3+ years of experience in design engineering for nuclear power plant control systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience
  • PE license.
AI & Automation at Sargent & Lundy
  • Take engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework and deliver cost‑effective designs.
  • Build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, ensuring strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting experience (Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • Additional learning such as a minor, certificate or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering or related fields that helps apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.

Compensation Range

$74,353 - $113,595
