We are seeking a sales tax professional to join our fast‑paced, collaborative tax department. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, a self‑starter, a problem‑solver, has a willingness to learn, and exercises independent judgement while still enjoying being part of a team. Our tax department provides a highly collaborative culture while allowing you to work autonomously to prepare a high volume of complex tax returns.
This role is primarily responsible for independently preparing monthly transaction returns, timely and accurately reporting on sales activities and ensuring correct tax jurisdiction assignments for our customers. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to audit support, account reconciliations, process improvements, tax notice resolution, and special projects as assigned.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare sales and use tax returns and payment requests timely and accurately
- Timely file all assigned returns
- Prepare other non‑income tax returns, including beverage taxes, dairy, and others
- Prepare monthly tax account reconciliations and resolve variances
- Support Management in state and local audits with information gathering, data analysis, and implementation of system changes with respect to audit findings
- Prepare other transactional tax reports as assigned
- Respond timely and appropriately to tax notices as assigned
- Interact and communicate effectively with various business personnel and units to understand transactions and ensure accurate reporting
- Monitor tax law and rate changes; research and interpret transactional tax guidance as needed.
- Maintain documentation in accordance with SOX requirements
- Interact with other members of the Finance department and accounting personnel at the operating facilities
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of sales tax software applications to ensure accurate collection and reporting
- Other functions and projects as assigned
Benefits QualificationsA Bachelor's Degree, Accounting preferred
A minimum of 2 years of transaction tax experience
Other Criteria- Demonstrated analytical and computer skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
- Self‑motivated and innovative with the ability to thrive under pressure and work flexible hours as needed
- A strong ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in a changing environment
- Strong integrity and business ethics
- Experience with Vertex Tax Compliance software is a plus
- Experience with SAP is a plus
