Position: SOCIAL WORK SUPERVISOR IV - CMHHIP

Overview

As a cornerstone of the Pueblo community for over a century, Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) is a leading employer, provider of quality mental health services, and a community partner. CMHHIP is a 24 hour behavioral health acute care facility that provides a safe, secure, and therapeutic setting for patients with both psychiatric and medical issues. Services include evaluation and treatment for patients who are severely mentally ill, with the goal of returning patients to their optimal level of functioning and reintegration into the community as appropriate.

Work location and schedule: You are required to work at your assigned work location during your scheduled times. Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the CMHHIP Campus. Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

About the Position

This position supervises, coordinates, and directs the delivery of Social Work services throughout the hospital. It provides direction and guidance to Social Work staff to ensure compliance with hospital policy, regulatory requirements, and professional/ethical standards. Responsibilities include facilitating and monitoring admissions, treatment, patient progression, discharge planning, and community reintegration; providing coverage for subordinate staff as needed. The role attends and participates in assigned committees, meetings, work groups, and projects, and collaborates with community resources to ensure continuity of care.

It attends Morning Report and Unit Oversight meetings for supervised staff. It provides Clinical Supervision of Social Work services, including individual, family, and group therapies, psychosocial treatments, multisystem education, advocacy, and case management. The position develops guidelines to implement programs aligned with the hospital mission and participates in quality initiatives by tracking trends, providing input, and implementing improvements. Critical thinking, judgment, and resourcefulness are used to interpret diverse circumstances and shape agency programs.

Success depends on applying education and training to inform decisions and actions.

Responsibilities
  • Management:
    Direct, supervise, and manage all assigned Social Work staff; work under the Director of Social Work; coordinate staff schedules and ensure adequate coverage for patient care; coordinate treatment schedules with the COT Staffing Office; cover staffing shifts as needed; monitor and adjust timecards; make staffing decisions and supervise shifts and social work disciplines; provide clinical and administrative supervision, professional development, performance evaluations, recruitment and onboarding, and ensure required training is completed;

    orient newly hired social workers; participate in committees and interview panels; complete department audits to support quality documentation, assessment, reporting, and treatment; ensure social work services comply with CMHHIP policies, licensure, and regulatory requirements; communicate process/policy changes to unit staff; mentor current staff; ensure knowledge of patient Plans of Care, discharge planning, and treatment needs; supervise direct reports; interpret agency policy and social work best practices;

    maintain ethical practice; disseminate information to other disciplines; collaborate with leadership and safety personnel; may travel for training, court hearings, and patient transport.
  • Quality Assurance/Chart Auditing and Documentation Review:
    Measure and monitor services to achieve outcomes; ensure regulatory compliance; review clinical documentation for accuracy and timeliness; procure data from EHRs; conduct regular audits for completeness and regulatory adherence.
