Job Summary And Qualifications

The Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for the activities related to decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of instruments. He/she will also be able to provide all necessary supplies for assembly for procedures. The technician performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care delivery at SMC.

Position Requirements
  • Central Service Certification Preferred / Not required
  • Education:

    High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Experience:

    One to three years’ experience as a Central Sterile Technician or Operating Room Technician preferred.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    Basic to advanced knowledge in the role of instrumentation as well as decontamination and sterilization of instruments. Demonstrates good organizational skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers.
  • Degree of Supervision

    Required:

    Under supervision of Department Director/designee.
  • Orientation Period:
    Minimum of 2 weeks contingent upon experience. Extensive orientation may be required and will be determined by Department Director/designee.
