Position Summary
Unison Systems is looking for a skilled Metrics & Reporting Designer/Analyst for our client located in Englewood, CO. In this role, you will serve as a strategic bridge between business stakeholders and technical development teams, translating complex business challenges into well-defined metrics frameworks and designing the dashboards that enable data-driven decision making. Rather than performing the technical build yourself, you will leverage strong analytical skills and SQL proficiency to deeply understand data, validate assumptions, and produce clear, actionable requirements for both business and technical audiences.
Partnering closely with Finance, Operations, Marketing, Customer Experience, and IT, you will act as a trusted advisor on measurement strategy and help shape how the organization measures success.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structured discovery sessions with business stakeholders to uncover needs, pain points, and decision-making gaps, and document current-state reporting processes to identify opportunities for improvement or consolidation.
- Define KPIs, metrics, and dimensions that accurately reflect business performance, and design metric hierarchies and taxonomies that ensure consistency and reusability across the organization.
- Establish clear metric definitions including calculation logic, data sources, refresh cadence, and ownership, identifying leading and lagging indicators for balanced measurement frameworks.
- Design intuitive, user-centered dashboards and reports, selecting appropriate visualization types and creating wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to align stakeholders before development begins.
- Write and execute SQL queries to explore data, validate metric logic, profile data sources, and confirm data availability and quality.
- Author comprehensive Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) and Technical Requirements Documents (TRDs), and maintain a metrics catalog documenting definitions, owners, lineage, and business context.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for development teams throughout the delivery lifecycle, conducting TRD walkthroughs and reviewing build output against requirements.
- Validate completed builds through user acceptance testing (UAT) to confirm delivered metrics and visualizations meet defined business and technical requirements before release.
- Present metric designs and dashboard concepts to stakeholders at all levels, manage expectations around scope and timelines, and support adoption through training and documentation.
- 3+ years of experience in a business analysis, data analysis, or BI/reporting role.
- Proficiency in SQL, with the ability to write complex queries including joins, aggregations, window functions, and CTEs to explore and validate data.
- Demonstrated experience gathering requirements from non-technical stakeholders and translating them into documented specifications.
- Experience designing dashboards or reports in a BI tool (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or Qlik).
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to frame ambiguous business problems as measurable outcomes and prioritize solutions by impact and effort.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to both executive and technical audiences.
- Proven ability to create wireframes, mockups, or prototypes using tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, or equivalent.
- Experience designing dashboards in Tableau.
- Experience with a formal metrics framework (e.g., OKRs, Balanced Scorecard, North Star metrics).
- Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas, facts, and dimensions).
- Exposure to data catalog or data governance tools.
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum delivery environments.
- Background in a domain-specific analytics function (e.g., finance, marketing, operations, or customer experience).
