Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer III to join their team. This position is located in Denver, Colorado. The role serves as a subject matter expert in DNS within a high‑velocity lab environment, responsible for the ownership, maintenance, and technical evolution of DNS infrastructure to ensure agility and stability for complex research and development.

Responsibilities
  • Own and manage lab DNS/DHCP/IPAM (DDI) services, including configuration, proactive monitoring, and high‑tier troubleshooting.
  • Architect and implement automated DNS workflows using Terraform, Ansible, or Python to support episodic lab deployments and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Manage IP address space allocation (IPAM) across disparate lab segments to prevent overlaps and ensure accurate resource tracking.
  • Integrate DNS resolution across hybrid‑cloud environments, ensuring seamless connectivity between on‑premises hardware and public cloud instances.
  • Support network‑level services such as PXE boot, DHCP Relay, and SRV record management for specialized lab equipment and application testing.
  • Configure and maintain DNS security features, including DNSSEC and Response Policy Zones (RPZ), to support security research and hardened test environments.
  • Perform deep‑packet analysis using tools like Wireshark or tcpdump to resolve complex resolution issues within non‑standard network topologies.
  • Lead DNS‑related infrastructure projects, from initial capacity planning to decommissioning of legacy lab systems.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to provide customized DNS solutions for high‑performance computing and low‑latency application testing.
  • Drive the adoption of infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) best practices to ensure repeatable and version‑controlled DNS configurations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers regarding DNS protocols and systems administration.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of hands‑on experience managing and maintaining enterprise or lab‑grade DNS environments.
  • Strong mastery of DNS architecture, recursive versus authoritative resolution, and protocol‑level operations.
  • Experience with DDI platforms such as Infoblox, Blue Cat, or BIND/ISC DHCP.
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix systems administration and shell scripting for task automation.
  • Familiarity with virtualization and container platforms (VMware, Open Stack, Kubernetes) and their DNS requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects in a fast‑paced, experimental environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to translate research needs into technical system requirements.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, focused on root‑cause analysis in multi‑vendor environments.
Benefits
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance Plans.
  • Employee‑Owned Profit Sharing (ESOP).
  • 401(k) offered.
  • Approximate pay range: $42.00 to $52.00 per hour.
