Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Automation & Mechatronics Engineer, Injection Molding, Industrial Maintenance
Maintenance Technician
Plastic Molding Technology (PMT) manufactures high precision plastic parts for automotive, telecommunications, medical device, renewable energy, and industrial customers. The primary manufacturing processes are injection molding and thermoforming. PMT has ~100 injection molding presses at its two primary manufacturing locations in El Paso, TX and Centennial, CO (a suburb of Denver). A third facility in Longmont, CO (a suburb of Denver) provides in-house repair and fabrication of tools & dies.
As a Maintenance Technician in a plastic molding operation, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment and automated systems used in the production of plastic molded parts. Additionally, you will directly support production by performing work-order changes as necessary. Your expertise will encompass electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, and stepper motor systems, enabling you to handle various aspects of the maintenance and automation process.
You will work closely with engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel to ensure the successful implementation and optimal performance of all systems, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, inspect, and troubleshoot injection molding machines, molds, robotics, conveyors, auxiliary equipment, and facility systems involving electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, and stepper-motor controls.
- Complete preventive maintenance and repairs as scheduled, including cleaning, inspecting, and repairing customer-owned tooling to maintain production readiness.
- Respond to equipment alarms, breakdowns, and process abnormalities; identify root causes, make safe repairs or corrections, and restore production with minimal downtime.
- Support mold, material, color, and automation changeovers, including equipment setup, start-up, shutdown, and verification that work orders and production requirements are met.
- Monitor molding performance and make authorized adjustments to temperatures, pressures, speeds, cycle time, cooling, and related process parameters to maintain a stable, repeatable process.
- Troubleshoot molding defects and process variation with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Process Technicians; support trials, first-piece approval, corrective actions, and documentation of approved changes.
- Install, configure, and commission equipment and automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, controllers, drives, sensors, and related components.
- Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of maintenance, downtime, repairs, process adjustments, equipment modifications, and recurring issues.
- Provide technical guidance to operators, share troubleshooting knowledge, and participate in continuous-improvement projects that improve uptime, quality, cycle performance, and reliability.
- Follow all safety, LOTO, environmental, quality, and building-code requirements; identify hazards and escalate conditions that could affect employees, equipment, tooling, or product quality.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or vocational training in automation, mechatronics, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and or plumbing.
- Proven maintenance, automation, or process-technician experience, preferably in injection molding, with strong electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
- Strong knowledge of automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, servo drives, stepper motor controllers, as well as electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic controls.
- Proficient in programming languages relevant to automation and electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, and stepper motor systems, such as ladder logic or structured text.
- Familiarity with injection molding processes, tooling, mold setup, process parameters, cycle optimization, and common molding defects.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals for electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, and stepper motor components.
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions related…
