Description

Boulder County Community Planning and Permitting Department is seeking to hire a Youth Programs Specialist
. The Wildfire Partners program, which provides free wildfire mitigation services to individuals and communities who cannot complete mitigation on their own, is looking for a liaison between Wildfire Partners, partner organizations such as TEENS Inc. and Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC), and the recipients of these services. The position involves coordinating outreach, selecting projects, and overseeing on‑site mitigation work by youth crews.

Salary range: $63,828.00 - $68,900.00 annually.

Full‑time, exempt position. Weekday business hours, working either four 10‑hour days or five 8‑hour days per week, with occasional evenings and Saturdays as needed.

Work location:

2045 13th Street, Boulder, Colorado.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and recruit vulnerable individuals and communities to apply to the program.
  • Coordinate the selection process for recipients of free mitigation services.
  • Identify mitigation projects suitable for youth crews.
  • Plan work for youth crews, order materials, roll‑off dumpsters in advance, and schedule coordination with participating communities.
  • Oversee on‑site mitigation during the summer (early June to early August) and fall (early September to mid‑November) seasons, typically with weekly four‑10‑hour shifts.
  • Provide wildfire mitigation education to participants and inform them of additional opportunities.
  • Generate publicity to inspire wider community engagement in mitigation activities.
  • Assist the education, outreach, and administrative teams on special projects, including tabling at events, speaking at meetings, answering inquiries, and supporting marketing efforts.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • May be reassigned during emergency situations.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of six years of combined education and experience in one of the following areas:
    • Participating in or leading youth crews outdoors for at least eight weeks.
    • Leading or organizing formal volunteer projects with multiple team members for at least eight weeks.
    • Implementing wildfire mitigation or natural resource field projects involving multiple team members and properties for at least eight weeks.
    • Paid experience in community organizing.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Consent to a background investigation and fingerprinting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (additional compensation may be provided).
  • Familiarity and experience with the Wildfire Partners program.
  • Previous experience as a crew leader for TEENS, Inc., MHYC, or a similar youth organization.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Skill in engaging community members from under‑represented populations in collective action programs.
  • Experience coordinating with program partners, aligning expectations, and maintaining positive relationships.
  • Direct experience supervising or supporting youth corps or volunteers in project‑based work.
  • Knowledge of wildfire mitigation, land management, or natural resource principles (or willingness to learn).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including conflict de‑escalation.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel across Boulder County.
