Job TitleResearch Assistant
Job DescriptionThe Ingram lab in the Department of Anesthesiology studies synaptic changes in various areas of the brain induced by acute and chronic pain and drugs of abuse. We use animal models of pain and addiction and ex vivo brain slices for whole-cell electrophysiological recordings examining changes in neurotransmitter release and ion channel, transporter, and G protein-coupled receptor function. We use anatomical tracing techniques and optogenetic techniques with viral constructs and light-activated channels to stimulate/inhibit neurotransmitter release.
The Research Assistant should have a passion for experimental design of electrophysiological experiments, is proficient at whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiology experiments, is creative and efficient, and enjoys teaching others. This position will perform lab management, including mouse/rat colony maintenance, as well as conducting experiments. Experiments include, but are not limited to, stereotaxic surgeries, patch-clamp electrophysiology in brain-slice preparations, and in vivo two-photon microscopy.
Responsibilities include preparing solutions, operation and general maintenance of instruments, as well as data collection and analysis. This person will also be responsible for training new lab staff in electrophysiological techniques. It is an opportunity to learn cutting-edge technologies and to work on important projects with translational significance.
