Note:

Work hours for these three positions will be Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. May be required to work occasional shifts outside of the regular shift to meet department needs. Successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions. Also, must be able to interpret written directives, policies, and memos.

An essential function of this position requires the individual to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and depth perception. You must be able to perform this level of physical exertion and essential functions in order to be considered for this position.

This position will wear personal protection equipment and standardized uniforms.

Shift Differentials will be paid to employees in eligible classes as published in the State's annual pay plan.

  • Regular rate applies when work hours fall between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (no shift differential).
  • Second shift differential rate (7.5%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
  • Third shift differential rate (14%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
  • Weekend differential rate (20%) applies when more than half of the scheduled shift hours fall on a weekend shift. Weekend shifts start at 4:00 pm Friday through 6:00 am Monday.
Description of Job

This full-time position is located in the Security Department at the Community College of Aurora. Campus Safety Officers provide safety and security for the 5 campus buildings and parking lots, assisting the campus community with a wide variety of problems and concerns, providing first response to campus emergencies and disruptions, and crowd and traffic control. Maintain a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality at all times.

Patrolling

and Call Responses

Conduct security patrols of campus and all College buildings and facilities on foot or by other means (i.e. patrol car, bicycle, etc.) and provide stationary security post duties as assigned. Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone and/or supervisory and management personnel of the Security Department. Designs and leads campus safety patrol initiatives. Ensure that security supervisory and management personnel are notified in a proper and timely manner of breaches of security occurring on College properties or of information received that may create a security risk for College properties such as trespassers and contact local law enforcement as appropriate.

Assume control of situations on campus until emergency responders arrive.

Investigations and Reporting

Provide initial response to emergencies and incidents on campus and complete initial investigations to determine disposition. Conduct investigations of security matters on campus. Write complete, accurate and timely reports to record campus incidents and document investigations and maintains logs relating to activity on campus.
