About the Role

As a Concrete Paver Operator, you will be the lead on our GOMACO Commander III Xtreme, responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient slip forming of concrete for curb and gutter, sidewalks, and other intricate paving applications. Your expertise in machine setup, operation, and maintenance, coupled with a commitment to safety and quality, will be paramount to our project success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Machine Setup & Calibration:
  • Prepare the paver for operation by configuring the G+ Control System, including radius programming, elevation, and alignment.
  • Calibrate All-Track Steering (ATS) and All-Track Positioning (ATP) systems for accurate track movement and leg articulation.
  • Set up mold and trimmer head positions using smart cylinder adjustments for precise horizontal and vertical alignment.
  • Interface and configure guidance systems (stringline, 2D, or 3D) to ensure an accurate paving path.
  • Paving Operations:
  • Operate the Commander III Xtreme to perform curb and gutter, and sidewalk including tight-radius slip forming.
  • Monitor and adjust paving parameters such as speed, elevation, vibration, and steering in real-time using the G+ control panel.
  • Ensure consistent concrete flow and finish quality by coordinating with the concrete delivery team and using onboard sensors and cameras.
  • Adjust mold height, offset, and slope as needed to maintain correct profile and drainage specifications.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Inspection:
  • Perform daily pre-start inspections and fluid checks (fuel, hydraulic oil, coolant).
  • Conduct routine maintenance: track tensioning, mold cleaning, trimmer servicing, sensor calibration, and lubrication.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or control system issues promptly.
  • Safety & Compliance:
  • Follow all site safety rules and operate machinery in compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations.
  • Ensure all guards, covers, and Emergency Stops are functional and used appropriately.
  • Maintain safe working zones around the paver, including spotters and signalers when necessary.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or incidents immediately to supervision.
  • Documentation & Communication:
  • Keep detailed logs of machine operation hours, maintenance performed, and production rates.
  • Communicate effectively with the paving crew, grade checker, and surveyor to maintain line and grade.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints, project specifications, and field layout instructions.
  • Provide feedback to the foreman on machine performance, production challenges, or improvement opportunities.

Skills and Qualifications
  • 3+ years of verifiable experience operating slipform paving equipment (GOMACO experience, especially with the Commander III Xtreme, is highly preferred).
  • Familiarity with G+ control systems and basic troubleshooting of electrical and hydraulic components.
  • Ability to read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and stringline layouts accurately.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of hydraulics and electronics.
  • Ability to work effectively in all weather conditions and commit to long shifts as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
