Position: Victim Advocate (Part-Time)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Victim Advocate provides assistance to victims of crime and traumatic incidents. The Victim Advocate implements Rights afforded to crime victims pursuant to section 24-4.1-302.5 and provides crisis intervention to victims.

This grant-funded position is a part-time weekend, swing shift position that requires riding along with a Patrol Officer to respond immediately to Victim Rights Act Crimes to provided crisis intervention under the Colorado Victim Rights Act. The shift will be Friday and Saturday 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM and include some on-call overnight coverage.

Reports to: Victim Services Supervisor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides direct services to victims of crime and traumatic events, which includes but not limited to, crisis intervention, emotional support, victim rights information, education on criminal justice system, connection and referrals to community resources, and short-term case management.
  • Provides both trauma-informed and victim-centered approaches when working with victims of crime and traumatic events.
  • Maintains follow-up with victims to provide continued support.
  • Collaborates with community agencies to provide resources to victims.
  • Understands, upholds, and assists in the education of victim rights per statutory and constitutional laws.
  • Ensures compliance with the Colorado Victims’ Rights Act.
  • Carries a cell phone and participates in a rotation of on-call.
  • Responds directly to incidents with law enforcement.
  • Reviews police reports daily.
  • Records and maintains data for statistical purposes.
  • Maintains and updates the programs community resources including but not limited to brochures, pamphlets, and resource directories.
  • Serves as a liaison between service providers, the District Attorney’s Office, law enforcement personnel and other emergency responders.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences as necessary to maintain ongoing knowledge of laws and resources.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists Victim Services Supervisor with calls, training and other victim assistance duties. Serves as back-up to the Victim Services Supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and required.
PREPARATION AND TRAINING Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or related field
Work Experience
  • Two years of professional experience in the human services field or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications and/or Licensures
  • Ability to pass background check through the Englewood Police department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.
Required Driver’s License
  • Colorado Driver’s License must be valid.

An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft, including Teams
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed both in the police department offices and riding in patrol vehicles responding to live calls for service with Patrol Officers. May involve exposure to emotionally intense or high-risk situations, including response to crime scenes in various conditions. Works weekend shifts and on call night shifts depending on staffing needs. Work is performed in 10-hour shifts.

HOURLY PAY RANGE

$25.21 - $37.82/Hourly Rate
