Automation Test Engineer

Charter is looking for an Automation Test engineer to work in their IP Video space. The IP Video teams create REST and Kafka services that provide TV-over-the-internet. This is video that customers can watch on their Roku, Apple TV, Android, iOS, etc. A new team has been created to deliver faster, more reliable APIs. This team is looking for an Automation Test engineer that can help ensure the team produces quality deliveries.

The services that this team creates will be in a microservice architecture, running in Kubernetes on AWS. The services will handle hundreds of millions of REST calls and Kafka events per day. The service work will be primarily greenfield (created from the ground-up). The project management style is Agile, with elements of both Kanban and Scrum.

The main role of the Automation Test engineer is to perform automation testing of the REST and Kafka services, using Typescript. Hundreds of automation tests have been written, with a goal of creating thousands more. In addition to automation testing, the test engineer is expected to perform functional testing before writing their automation testing. This includes alpha testing, acceptance testing, ad-hoc testing, and back-end validate of databases.

The Automation Test engineer will work closely with developers on a daily basis. The team practices Dev/Dev-Test Pairing, where developers and testers work together on each ticket.

The most important technical requirement for this position is to be an expert in automation testing and Typescript. The testing framework used by the team is built on Jest. The following technologies are used:

In addition to having a solid understanding of testing practices, the ideal candidate will have experience with the following:

• CI/CD pipelines
• Issue-tracking (Jira)
• Agile methodologies
• Test case documentation

Typescript Jest Basic Qualification :
Ability to do test automation for a new platform that doesn't have a UI. Client is using Jest and Typescript for automation, but is open to anyone that has JavaScript and Node.js framework experience (mocha, chai, WebdriverIO, Cypress, etc. ) Additional Skills :
