Role Overview

  • Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Redis databases across on-premises and AWS environments.
  • Perform database schema management, including schema design, table structures, indexing, partitioning, and optimization.
  • Manage and optimize MySQL database performance
    , including query optimization, indexing strategies, execution plans, and database configuration.
  • Develop and maintain MySQL replication solutions based on application requirements to provide high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Configure and manage database high-availability solutions and ensure database services meet availability and reliability requirements.
  • Administer AWS database and infrastructure services including Amazon RDS, Aurora, Elasti Cache, DynamoDB, S3, and EC2
    .
  • Monitor database health, performance, availability, capacity, and resource utilization across development, test, and production environments.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting using AWS Cloud Watch, PMM, Datadog, and MONyog
    .
  • Proactively identify database performance bottlenecks and implement appropriate optimization and remediation strategies.
  • Perform daily database maintenance, health checks, housekeeping, capacity planning, and database health assessments.
  • Troubleshoot database, operating system, connectivity, replication, performance, and availability issues.
  • Work closely with application developers to design efficient database schemas and improve application/database interaction.
  • Analyze and optimize complex SQL queries to improve database performance and application response times.
  • Apply database performance-tuning techniques based on workload, resource utilization, query behavior, and MySQL configuration.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of MySQL internals and storage engines
    .
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive backup and recovery strategies for critical databases.
  • Perform database recovery operations and restoration activities while ensuring data integrity and minimizing data loss.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery (DR) procedures and participate in DR testing and validation.
  • Ensure appropriate Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) requirements are supported.
  • Automate routine database administration and infrastructure tasks using Ansible and AWS Cloud Formation
    .
  • Develop shell scripts and/or Python scripts to automate database monitoring, maintenance, deployment, backup, and operational activities.
  • Work closely with Dev Sec Ops  teams to ensure timely application of database security patches, upgrades, and configuration changes.
  • Follow database security best practices and maintain secure database configurations across environments.
  • Perform database version upgrades, patching, migration, and maintenance activities with minimal production impact.
  • Support database environments running in both on-premises data centers and AWS cloud environments
    .
  • Work with Linux administrators and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot database server and operating-system-level issues.
  • Perform Linux administration and troubleshooting
    , including resource utilization, processes, file systems, networking, permissions, and system performance.
  • Participate in production incident management and provide L2/L3 database support.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical production database incidents and service interruptions.
  • Investigate production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Generate ad-hoc database reports and provide data-related insights to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, Dev Ops, Dev Sec Ops , and engineering teams to resolve database-related issues.
  • Maintain technical documentation covering database configurations, operational procedures, recovery processes, replication, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure database environments are reliable, scalable, highly available, secure, and optimized for application workloads.
  • Work onsite in New Jersey and collaborate effectively with technical and business teams.
