POSITION
PURPOSE:
To enhance the quality of life of Enid residents and guests through the efficient operation of the City of Enid library and through the promotion of literacy.
- Maintains awareness of commonly used technologies and applies technology effectively for ongoing learning and collaboration.
- Helps to develop and maintain a collection of resources to meet community needs.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with others to achieve common goals.
- Climbs step stools, creates displays, and arranges materials to build 21st‑century literacy skills and meet lifelong learning needs of users.
- Works effectively in teams with strong team‑building skills and attitudes.
- Meets standards and practices for the delivery of high‑quality customer service.
- Manages the development of one’s own learning and ongoing improvements of skills and knowledge.
- Participates in professional development opportunities.
- Suggests materials to customers according to their needs and interests.
- Understands, uses, and helps others with basic computer hardware, software, mobile devices, and the internet.
- Performs basic word processing operations.
- Performs basic printing operations from common applications.
- Reserves, circulates, and renews library materials.
- Enters data to update patrons’ records on computers.
- Answers routine reference inquiries and refers patrons to librarians.
- Guides patrons in finding and using library resources, including reference materials, audiovisual equipment, computers, and electronic resources.
- Sorts books, publications, and other items according to procedure.
- Delivers and retrieves items throughout the library by hand or using a pushcart.
- Provides customer service to patrons to process card applications and/or collect lost/damaged book payments.
- Rearranges furniture as necessary.
- Uses cart to pull books, assists customers with finding books, sorts shelves, and shifts books to create space.
- Supplies circulation desk with necessary forms.
- Oversees patron activities and notifies supervisor of disruptions.
- Provides assistance to other departments as needed.
- Performs other duties as required.
- The library division runs smoothly and efficiently; work area is neat and orderly.
- Excellent customer service and guidance is provided to patrons of the library.
- Efficient and effective processing, cataloging, and lending of library materials exists.
- The circulation desk/resource desk is adequately staffed and materials are handled according to established procedure.
- Effective working relations exist with city personnel.
- New employees are well trained and assisted; management is appropriately informed.
- Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.
- The city’s professional reputation is maintained.
Education / Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Certification / Licences: Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) Public Librarian Certification within one year; continuing education to maintain ODL certification.
Required Knowledge- English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including spelling, composition, and grammar.
- Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including needs assessment, quality standards, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Specialized: Dewey Decimal Classification System, Oklahoma law regarding confidentiality of library records; knowledge of Boolean searching and equivalent search techniques.
