Primary FunctionPrimary Function: Responsible for planning, delivering, and managing instruction for the Evening Air Conditioning & Refrigeration program while overseeing program operations, maintaining a safe classroom/lab environment, engaging with industry partners, and preparing students for certification and employment in the HVAC industry.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Adhere to Oklahoma Criteria for Effective Teaching and the Standards of Performance & Conduct for Teaching in the delivery of Air Conditioning & Refrigeration curriculum/instruction.
- Maintain accurate and current grade books, attendance records, and submit weekly progress reports to Student Services.
- Instruct students in the proper use, care, and safe operation of equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and facilities.
- Remain current with and incorporate instructional, technological, and regulatory changes within the HVAC industry.
- Encourage and prepare students to obtain industry-recognized certifications.
- Manage the daily operation of the Evening Air Conditioning & Refrigeration program, including classroom and laboratory activities.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and effective classroom/lab learning environment.
- Prepare and submit an annual list of budgetary needs for the program to the direct supervisor.
- Monitor the expenditure of program funds in accordance with the approved budget and school policies.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and monitor equipment, tools, and supplies to prevent loss, damage, or theft.
- Prepare and submit reports and documentation as required by Autry Tech, the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, and other accrediting agencies.
- Prepare for and actively participate in program accreditation and evaluation processes.
- Develop and implement short- and long-term program goals aligned with HVAC industry standards and workforce needs.
- Effectively utilize an Advisory Committee and conduct at least one advisory meeting annually.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with workforce & economic development staff, businesses, and industry partners.
- Actively promote and participate in recruitment of students for the Evening Air Conditioning & Refrigeration program.
- Promote and coordinate student placement in job shadowing, supervised work experiences, employment opportunities, and continuing education.
- Coordinate with the Marketing Department to inform the public of program activities and successes.
- Sponsor or co-sponsor Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) activities and encourage student participation in CTSO and other student organizations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Associate degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration or closely related field is preferred. Equivalent relevant work experience in the HVAC industry may be considered in lieu of education.
Certification: Must hold and maintain a valid Oklahoma Journeyman license and have the ability to be certified by the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board to teach the program.
Skills:
- Knowledge of residential and commercial HVAC installation, service, and troubleshooting practices
- Ability to diagnose and repair HVAC electrical and mechanical systems
- Knowledge of refrigerant charging, system diagnostics, and HVAC safety standards
