Ag in the Classroom Coordinator
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) is seeking a full‑time Ag Marketing Coordinator in the Market Development Division. This position (PIN #) is located in Oklahoma City, OK.
The hourly pay is up to $34.05 based on education and experience. The State of Oklahoma offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.
Basic PurposeEmployee will work directly with other ODAFF Marketing Coordinators on the administrative tasks of the Ag in the Classroom program and will develop new programs and resources to promote agriculture literacy throughout the state.
Typical Functions- Develop teacher resources that convey basic educational concepts using agricultural facts.
- Conduct professional development activities featuring Ag in the Classroom materials.
- Conduct student events featuring agriculture literacy concepts with small and large groups of children.
- Plan and facilitate trips, tours, workshops and conferences for teachers, industry leaders and non‑traditional educators.
- Seek out and apply for grant funding to enhance the existing program.
- Plan and coordinate events with 30–300 attendees.
- Work with the Ag in the Classroom team to prepare a budget and strategic plan each year.
This is the specialist level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibilities for performing advanced level work in planning, organizing, and implementing multiple or complex marketing programs, including serving as project leaders, developing work activities and budgets for assigned programs, and directing or supervising the work of other coordinators assigned to assist in implementing assigned programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of the agricultural industry in Oklahoma; advertising principles and practices; promotional activities regarding agricultural products; effective public relations; business administration functions and techniques; domestic and international marketing strategies; and program evaluation techniques. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to follow instructions; to exercise independent judgment; to express ideas clearly and concisely; to conduct several projects simultaneously;
to evaluate information and alternatives and select an appropriate course of action; to evaluate ongoing programs to ensure compliance with established guidelines or to enhance effectiveness; and to develop comprehensive marketing plans.
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture plus two years of qualifying experience or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (substituting one year of experience in marketing agricultural commodities or value‑added processed products for each year of the required education). Applicant should have a current Oklahoma teaching certificate, a minimum of one year of classroom experience, and extensive knowledge of Oklahoma academic standards.
PhysicalDemands and Work Environment
Position is field‑based with frequent in‑state travel required. Event setup may involve some heavy lifting. Some outdoor work, nights, weekends, and long hours are common.
Additional InformationApplicant should also have an understanding of common pedagogical strategies, the ability to explain curriculum and strategy to teachers, the ability to form professional relationships with a wide variety of people including agriculture producers, agency employees and organizational leaders, willingness to work on a team or alone on a wide variety of projects at one time, exceptional written and oral communication skills including public speaking, and proficiency in basic office computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Google applications.
