Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Jeffries Lab is looking for a summer Laboratory Technician. This position is in the Arthritis & Clinical Immunology department and will provide motivated students the opportunity to assist with research studies directed towards understanding the mechanisms of osteoarthritis.
Duties may include:
- handling of patient samples
- performing a variety of cell culture and molecular biology techniques
- extraction, analysis, and presentation of data
- Strong interest in biomedical research
- Excellent organizational skills
- Must be team-oriented, personable and able to deal with diverse personalities
- Must be able to take direction, follow instructions and keep meticulous records
- Must be reliable and self-driven with a high attention to detail
- Basic computer skills to include knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Entry level position; however individuals with previous technician experience will be considered
- Previous experience included molecular biology such as DNA purification, restriction cloning, PCR, site-directed mutagenesis, and/or RNA handling
- Exposure to a clinical environment
Approximately 20 hours per week.
