Position: Research Technician I - Sharpe Lab

Research Technician – Preclinical Behavior and Surgery Suite, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF)

Position:
Research Technician (Full time)

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and organize the Preclinical Behavior and Surgery Suite (60%): coordinate equipment schedules, train new users, maintain computers and supplies, ensure compliance with safety and animal use oversight, serve as liaison with animal care personnel.
  • Perform mouse behavioral assays, maintain a mouse colony, and conduct mouse surgeries (40%); general lab duties including ordering supplies and reagents.
  • Future growth opportunities include immunohistochemistry, survival surgeries on rodents (jugular catheter implantation, stereotaxic surgery).
Minimum Requirements
  • BS/BA in biological sciences, neuroscience, psychology, or equivalent lab experience.
  • Experience with rodents, basic mouse handling, and common neuroscience laboratory practices.
  • Advanced computer skills or ability to learn data acquisition, Microsoft Office, order processing, and data backup methods.
  • Reliable, organized, detail-oriented, with strong communication skills.
  • Strong scientific rigor, critical thinking, and attention to detail in research activities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate within a team.
  • Maintains highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism, contributing to a safe and supportive workplace culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant lab experience.
  • Background in experimental psychology.
  • Experience with animal behavioral training.
  • Basic knowledge of Arduino hardware and programming.
Work Hours

Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM; behavioral studies may require work outside these hours.
