Skilled Labor - Trades.
The rigger assembles rigging to safely lift and move equipment or material on construction projects. Duties include selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves according to the weight and size of the load, attaching pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures, attaching the load to crane hooks, providing directions to crane operators using hand signals or radio, and setting up, bracing, and rigging hoisting equipment with hand tools and power wrenches.
- Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment with hand tools and power wrenches.
- Visually inspect rigging to ensure safety and reliability by checking tag for current inspection date.
- Dismantle, account for, and properly store rigging equipment after job.
- Make sure that safety requirements are met at all times.
- Maintain clean company equipment surfaces and component parts (e.g., crane, pickup, van, or heavy haul).
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
- Give and take instructions both verbal and written, solve problems, and work well with others.
- Assist with inspections and configuring cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, and blocks according to load weights and sizes.
- Align, level, and anchor machinery.
- Attach loads to rigging support or prepare them for moving.
- Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, or booms using bolts and clamps.
- Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
- Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear.
- Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials, such as heavy equipment.
- Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches according to load weights and sizes.
- Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
- Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under and/or around obstacles.
- Understand and comply with company, customer, and health/safety policies and any other regulations required.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Abide by company values, culture, and rules of engagement.
- High school education or equivalent; rigger certification preferred.
- Prior experience in the construction industry is desirable, but not required.
- Rigging experience desired.
- Positive interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds and meet physical requirements defined in the pre‑placement physical.
- Must maintain positive, professional relationships with customers and co‑workers.
- Must understand and follow instructions, both verbal and written.
- Must organize and prioritize workload.
- Self‑starter, able to work with minimal supervision to complete assigned projects.
- Must pass a DOT drug screening and ongoing random drug screenings.
