POSITION
PURPOSE:
Provide quality life for City of Enid residents through preservation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems.
- Pull hose, operate jet nozzle, root cutter and other vehicle attachments to clean sewer lines under the supervision of the Heavy Equipment Operator.
- Assist with closed‑circuit camera equipment under the supervision of the Camera Technician.
- Assist Utility Maintenance staff in installation and repair of utility systems.
- Set barricades and traffic cones to safely re‑route traffic away from work areas.
- Measure distances using a tape measure to determine pipe and manhole sizes and location of sewer taps and blockages.
- Clean shop, shop breakroom, and shop bathroom, including taking out the trash.
- Operate power equipment such as generators, air compressors, jackhammers, power saws, power tamps, pumps, and paint sprayers to maintain and inspect the collection system.
- Use hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, grinders, grease guns, and welders (if certified) for preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Operate valve truck.
- Operate water pump at job sites, maneuvering hose to remove water from work area.
- Clean work area, all hand and power tools, and equipment.
- Mow and weed at lift stations.
- Collect wastewater samples and file sanitary sewer overflow reports with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality.
- Manually excavate and repair city utilities using a shovel, including repair of pressurized water lines.
- Respond to customer call‑ins and complaints.
- Wash vehicles regularly.
- Grease equipment such as backhoe, trackhoe, and vacuum truck.
- Provide assistance to other departments as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
- The Utility Maintenance division runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Blockages, breakage, and flow interruptions are minimized by an aggressive preventive maintenance program.
- Equipment is well maintained, clean, repaired, and operated safely, efficiently, and timely.
- New employees are well trained and assisted; management is appropriately informed.
- Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.
- System regulatory compliance is maintained.
- The City’s professional reputation is maintained.
Education/
Experience:
High school diploma or GED; or six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination. Some prior skill or knowledge may be helpful but is not required.
Certificates/Licenses:
- Class D Wastewater license (within 6 months)
- Class D Water license (within 6 months)
- Confined Space Certification
- Trenching & Shoring Training
- Maintain 4 hours of continuing education annually
Required Knowledge: Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including design, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Skills/Abilities:

- Proficiency with telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines
- Ability to repair and handle water piping
Finger Dexterity: Manual dexterity sufficient to handle items and perceive object attributes.
Visual Abilities: Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses; peripheral vision.
