Aquatic Director Job Description
- Manage everyday operations by supervising staff in the aquatic facility.
- Hire and train lifeguards.
- Hire and train swim instructors.
- Have knowledge of aquatic responsibilities and be able to perform job duties in the aquatic department.
- Complete payroll for all aquatic staff.
- Maintain discipline in the aquatics facility and supervise all staff, enforcing staff policies and rules.
- Document and report all disciplinary problems.
- Participate in continuing education of aquatics.
- Attend meetings as directed by the CEO.
- Serve as staff representative on Program Committee.
- Keep all personal certifications updated.
- Keep all aquatic staff certifications updated.
- Review and update all policies and procedures as needed.
- Yearly evaluation with aquatic staff.
- Responsible for filling gaps in lifeguarding and swim instructor schedule.
- Help maintain pool, equipment, and grounds to meet all necessary regulatory standards.
- Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff, and follow accident reporting procedures.
- Preferred CPR and First Aid (Training provided by the Y, if needed).
- Preferred experience in supervising and scheduling staff.
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in related field or experience working in a recreational or sports setting.
- Trainer-level certifications will be required to obtain.
- Communicate with people at all levels in a positive way.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately on a computer using our software tools.
- Ability to support management and philosophies of the Denny Price Family YMCA.
- Must be extremely organized, accurate, reliable, and diligent in meeting deadlines.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Lifeguarding.
- Swim Instruction.
- First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer (including AED).
- YMCA certifications for lifeguarding and swim instructor must be achieved within 6 months of employment.
- YMCA Instructor Trainer certification must be achieved within 6 months of employment.
