POSITION REPORTS TO: Technical Services Supervisor, Lead Traffic Electronic Technician

LEADERSHIP:
Provides co-worker leadership to others through motivation, team building, and providing feedback.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

- As a position directly affecting the safety of others, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of City of Enid's substance abuse policy, including random drug and alcohol testing.
- Possession of a valid Oklahoma Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Must be 21 years of age.
PURPOSE:
To ensure the safety and quality of the street and traffic system for Enid residents and provide for safe work zones for co-workers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Operate control mechanisms to install signs such as stop, speed limit, and informational signs.
- Perform skilled tasks in the manufacture, maintenance, and repair of city owned signs.
- Operate city vehicles to transport equipment and/or supplies, and travel between job sites.
- Set up safe work zones for employees and instruct co-workers on traffic hazards and safety.
- Set up or remove barricades, traffic cones, warning signs, or similar objects to provide traffic control on work sites or special events.
- Lay out and make pavement markings on roadways.
- Study factors affecting traffic conditions, such as lighting, and sign and marking visibility, in order to assess their effectiveness.
- Create regulatory, warning, construction, guide, school, recreation, and custom signs, and street markers.
- Provide assistance to other departments as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Effective knowledge of traffic regulations and work zones is demonstrated.
- Work zones are set up efficiently; other workers are trained in proper work zone set-up.
- Effective working relations exist with City personnel.
- New employees are well trained and assisted. Management is appropriately informed.
- Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.
- The City's professional reputation is maintained.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and or/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
IMSA Workzone Safety Temporary Traffic Control Certification (within one year).
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Transportation: Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by road, including the relative costs and benefits.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Basic computer skills.
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Accurate and attentive to detail.
- Good communications and public relation abilities.
- Good typing and computer application skills.
- Ability to assist and support others.
- Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines.
FINGER DEXTERITY:
Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers.
VISUAL ABILITIES:
- Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.
- Distance vision, peripheral vision, close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
PDC Level: Medium Employee lifts/carries 80 lbs occasionally (less than 33% of the time or 1-100 times per day). Ability to ascend/descend a ladder. Ability to walk while setting up work areas.
LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
